A major road running through Bedfordshire was closed after a vehicle hit a tree.

National Highways first said the A1 was shut heading northbound between Baldock and Biggleswade at about 19:55 GMT.

It added that a "serious collision" had taken place and drivers were warned that the closure would likely remain in place all evening.

Bedfordshire Police were on the scene alongside Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service.
