Dead animals thrown out with rubbish
South Kesteven District CouncilDead animals have been dumped in a number of fly-tipping incidents in Grantham.
The body of a cat was discovered in a bin bag on Wyville Road on 2 December last year, South Kesteven District Council said.
Bags containing a puppy, believed to have been newly born, and a large bird were found at flats on New Beacon Road on 11 November.
The authority said it was also investigating a muntjac deer left dismembered in bags in a field off Barkston Heath Road, which may have been illegally poached or trapped.
Councillor Rhys Baker said: "We're a nation of animal-lovers and all right-minded people will share our anger and disgust at such abhorrent behaviour."
The cat – a black, short-haired breed – was found in a pink Melton Borough Council refuse sack and was not microchipped.
The puppy was found inside a white bin bag in a communal bin, while the bird was stuffed in a men's shoulder bag, which was left next to the bin.
The deer was found on 23 October last year.
South Kesteven District CouncilBaker said the discoveries had been "thoroughly upsetting".
"There are several possibilities as to how these animals died - illegal poaching or trapping of wild animals, natural causes, mistreatment, neglect or road collisions," he added.
"If you have struck an animal, such as a dog or a cat on the road, don't just leave it there or throw it away – take it to a vet.
"It's what you'd want somebody else to do for your pet."
