Police are investigating the discovery of "possible human material" at a church in Perth.

Police were alerted to the incident at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene in York Place on Wednesday.

A police cordon was seen beside excavation work at the back of the church on Thursday, with officers removing evidence bags.

A police car remained parked outside the church on Friday morning.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said inquiries were at an early stage and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesman for the church declined to comment on the incident as it was a police matter, but said that church activities were continuing as usual.
