A man has appeared in court accused of starting a deliberate blaze at a tower block in Coatbridge last week.

Jet Pentacost, 19, was charged with wilful fireraising at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

Three people were treated for smoke inhalation following the fire at Calder Court in Whifflet, which was reported at about 06:50 on Friday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said crews in 11 fire engines and one height vehicle had worked to extinguish the blaze.

Mr Pentacost was remanded in custody for further examination.
