Knife crime: 'There's no winners, only devastation'
Family handoutThe mother of a15-year-old boy who was stabbed to death at his school has said there are "no winners" from knife crime, as she prepares for the first Christmas since her son's death.
Harvey Willgoose died after being stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School, in Sheffield, in February by fellow pupil Mohammed Umar Khan.
Caroline Willgoose said as well as thinking of her own loss she was also aware of the impact on Khan - who is serving a life sentence for Harvey's murder - and his family.
"There are no winners," she said. "This lad's having an awful time as well. He's not with his parents at Christmas. He's locked up and he's gonna be locked up for a long time."
Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Mrs Willgoose said she was "dreading" Christmas in the wake of Harvey's murder and the recent death of her father, adding "there's no decorations going up".
She said it came in stark contrast to Harvey's last Christmas, when the family had visited Tenerife, describing the trip as "just so perfect".
She said this year the family had been organising an event through the youth club set up in her son's memory, Harvey's Hub.
"We've got a Christmas party on Sunday," she said.
"We're making it really magical for him and I will get a lot out of that because when we've put things on it's like you've done this for these kids.
"It's gonna be emotional, but that's the only Christmas party I'm going to."
Asked how she felt about the impending new year, she said she had "mixed feelings".
"It's just been a horrendous year and I do want to forget it in that way," she said.
"But then it's moving away from the last time I saw Harvey and my dad."
She said the family would continue their focus on educating children on the dangers of carrying knives, as well as campaigning to introduce knife arches and bleed kits into more schools in her son's memory.
"I want to go into schools and teach these kids of the pure devastation of what knife crime brings," she said.
"I'm doing this for [Harvey], he wants me to do this and I've got to do this.
"He's going to have a legacy and he's changing things."
