Part of a major A-road was closed after a serious collision between a car and a lorry.

National Highways said the incident took place on the A12 between junction 19 for Boreham and junction 20a at Hatfield Peverel in Essex at about 04:04 BST on Friday.

Essex Police said the road was "completely closed to all traffic" northbound and advised motorists to find an alternative route while it carried out its investigation.

At about 12:00 BST, a National Highways spokesperson said recovery work had been completed and that lanes had reopened.
