A building has partially collapsed after a large fire in a shop in Leicester.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to a commercial property in Marjorie Street at about 09:25 GMT on Friday.

A spokesperson said the fire began on the ground floor, with the building currently unsafe to enter.

Though the floor above the shop contained residential flats, the service said all persons in the property were accounted for.

The fire started in the ground floor of the commercial property

Four appliances and an aerial ladder platform are being used to bring the blaze under control, with firefighters currently unable to enter the building.

Officers from Leicestershire Police are also in attendance.

The fire service said: "The fire started on the ground floor, and the building has now partially collapsed."

Residents in the area are being advised to keep doors and windows closed to avoid smoke inhalation.
