New average speed cameras have been installed along one of Bradford's busiest arterial roads.

The devices have been put in place on the A658 Harrogate Road, which runs into the city from the north-east.

Thanking residents and drivers for their "patience" during the the installation work, Bradford Council said the move was aimed at helping to cut road deaths.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw said the cameras formed part of a "wider road safety programme", which included extra money for police enforcement of speeding.

He added: "Vision Zero Bradford is about working towards zero road deaths across the district by 2040.

"Our average speed cameras in Bingley and Keighley have been a great success and I'm pleased we're able to install more on Harrogate Road.

"It's part of our work looking at every element of road safety from speed cameras to education in our schools so we can create a safer road environment for everyone in Bradford."
