Armed officers arrested a man carrying the sword along Aylestone Road

A man was arrested by armed officers after carrying a samurai sword in a street in Leicester.

Leicestershire Police said it was called at about 10:20 GMT on Saturday to several reports of a man acting suspiciously along Aylestone Road, near Saffron Lane.

The force said the man was walking along the main road with the sword, adding no-one was injured.

A 36-year-old man was detained by police and remains in custody.

Police thanked the public for their swift response, adding: "Thanks to their quick action police were able to deal with this immediately and no-one came to any harm."
