Parry was found to have falsified references to get his job at a nursery in Leeds

A nursery worker who admitted making more than 5,000 indecent images of young children after using false references to get his job has been jailed for two years.

Kristian Parry, 26, was arrested at the nursery where he worked in Leeds in May last year after police suspected he had uploaded indecent images of children.

He was found to have thousands of images and videos on his laptop and mobile phone, some of which were category A pictures showing the most severe kinds of abuse.

Parry, of Middleton, Leeds - who was 25 at the time of the offending - admitted fraud, making indecent images and possessing a prohibited image of a child and was jailed at Leeds Crown Court.

The court heard police officers attended the nursery where he worked on 13 May 2025, where he had responsibilities for looking after children under five and changing nappies.

Following his arrest it emerged he had falsified two job references via email, having been dismissed from his role at another Leeds nursery due to alcohol abuse in June 2024

The court heard when Parry was arrested, his phone screensaver was an image of a child wearing a nappy.

He gave no comment, but examinations of his laptop and phone showed he had 871 images in category A, 1,187 in category B and 3,263 in category C.

One of the most severe showed a young boy, aged between two and four years old, being subjected to abuse.

In his defence, the court heard he was of previous good character and had shown remorse and felt guilty and shamed.

He had issues with alcohol consumption and had been self-harming for two years.

Judge Geoffrey Marson KC told him: "Alcohol is a significant problem for you."

He said he had obtained his jobs at nurseries as they gave him access to very young children.

"Had they known your history you would not have been so employed," he said.

"The only explanation is that you have a sexual interest in very young children. You had access to the dark web and anonymised some of your browsing.

"You had chatted to others who shared your interests."

He added: "These offences are so serious that only an immediate sentence can be justified.

"You are assessed as a high risk. I am not persuaded there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation."

Parry was sentenced to a total of two years in prison and was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for 10 years.
