A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

Two women walking along a countryside road have died after they were hit by a car.

The pair, aged 57 and 59, died at the scene at about 07:40 GMT at the junctions of Scout Road, Smithills Dean Road, Colliers Row Road and Coal Pit Road in Bolton, Greater Manchester Police said.

The driver of a VW Polo - a 19-year-old man - has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.
