Police officer arrested on suspicion of rape

He is a serving Durham Police officer and was arrested earlier this month, according to the force.
The officer was immediately suspended and had since been released on bail, according to a spokesperson for the force.
A criminal investigation has been launched by Durham Police's Professional Standards Department into the allegation he raped a woman while off duty.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct confirmed it had received a referral from Durham after the arrest.
"Following a careful review of the available information, we instructed the force to carry out an investigation into the officer's conduct," a spokesperson said.
