'Awful' mountain of rubbish fly-tipped near A1
BBCA 40-tonne "mountain" of waste dumped off the side of a major road is being investigated by authorities.
The long line of rubbish, which is roughly 20m (65 ft) long, has been left in Tinker Lane, just off the A1 near Barnby Moor in Nottinghamshire, and appears to contain building, household and organic waste.
The Environment Agency said the illegal dump was reported to them on 25 January and was in the process of being cleared.
Darrell Pulk, the local district councillor, said he believed it was done by organised criminals who dropped it across multiple visits.

Pulk said anyone who could do this was "despicable".
"This is not just somebody that's doing it because they couldn't be bothered to go to the household waste place.
"It's somebody that's doing it in order to make money.
"You've just got a pile of all kinds of hodgepodge rubbish dumped, like a little mountain of waste.
"It's awful, absolutely awful. It's the most fly tipping I've seen in any one place," he said.
Councillor Pulk, who is also the head of neighbourhoods for Bassetlaw District Council, said the authority normally cleared rubbish dumps but this one was too big and potentially hazardous, so it was being dealt with by Nottinghamshire County Council and the Environment Agency.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "We are investigating the illegal deposits of waste on Tinker Lane near Blyth, and we share the community's disgust at these cases of environmental vandalism."

The BBC has contacted the county council for comment.
