Russell Watts was found dead in his hotel room on 10 January, police said

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead at a hotel in Tenerife last month.

Russell Watts, 63, from Rotherham, was found in his room at the Hotel Catalonia Punta Del Rey in the Candelaria area of the the Spanish holiday island on 10 January.

South Yorkshire Police said the 56-year-old woman, from the Rotherham area, was arrested on Wednesday and remained in custody.

Det Ch Insp Ben Wood said it was a "complex case" and that officers wanted to hear from anyone staying in the hotel around the time of the death.

Wood added: "Our investigation into Russell's death is still at an early stage and we are carrying out a number of extensive inquiries to piece together the events which led to his death."

Posting a tribute on Facebook last month, Thrybergh Top Club said Watts "was loved by all and will be greatly missed by all that knew him".

The club added: "Russ was a character, to say the least, and he brought energy to the club whenever he came in."
