Plans to recycle former tip as a business park

A former recycling centre in Kent that is currently used to store bins could be turned into a business park.

The site, in Otford Road, Sevenoaks, was previously used by Kent County Council for household waste.

Sevenoaks District Council says there are a number of buildings on the site which were used for many years to store equipment, but are now underused.

It has drawn up plans for a business park which would have four small industrial units with a drive-through.

It said the scheme would create business space, new jobs and benefit local people.

Some businesses have already shown interest in the units, which would be owned by the council and leased out.

A public consultation runs until 6 October and a planning application is expected to be submitted over the winter.

Cllr Michael Horwood, the district council’s cabinet member for innovation and improvement, said: “There is a desperate need for more light industrial business space in the district.

“Our proposal is a win-win for everyone. We will regenerate already developed but underused land, providing jobs for local people.

"We will also get a long-term rental income, helping to support the important services we provide to our communities.”
