A woman is planning to run 10km (6.2 miles) for 15 days in a row dressed in a brain costume to celebrate the 15th anniversary of a dementia charity in Jersey.

Simone Sains has already raised more than £1,100 of her £1,500 target ahead of her bid to run 15 different routes across the island.

Ms Sains said she would be promoting the 'Boost your Brain Campaign', which aims to educate people on keeping their brains healthy to reduce the chance of developing dementia.

Ms Sains said the charity was "very close" to her heart as her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease at the age of 57 - dying from it in 2016.

"She was diagnosed at the early age of 57 and lived with the disease for 15 years," she said.

"It's just such a devastating thing, not only for the person with the disease but for everyone around them.

"I'm a big supporter of Dementia Jersey who are a brilliant charity that provide support to people living with dementia and those who care for them in Jersey."

Ms Sains said she had not run in the brain costume yet but had practised a few laps in the Dementia Jersey car park.

She said if she faced challenges during her runs, she would think of her mother.

"When I'm really struggling, I'll be thinking of her," she said.

Ms Sains was due to begin her challenge at Jersey Park Run on Saturday at 09:00 GMT.
