Hugh Nelson says he is looking forward to meeting people across the diocese

The new Bishop of Worcester has said it would be "great to see lots of people" at a special service marking the start of his new role.

Hugh Nelson, who was previously Bishop of St Germans in Truro, Cornwall, was confirmed as the 114th bishop for the diocese last summer.

Nelson will be installed into his cathedral seat and presented with his robes at the service at Worcester Cathedral from 14:00 GMT on Saturday 17 January.

He previously said he loved spending time with his family, cooking, gardening and, as a cricket fan, was excited to be living near the New Road ground.

Nelson and his wife Lizzie have four children aged in their teens and 20s.

Saturday's service will be a "celebration of the life" of the diocese, which includes churches in Dudley, Malvern and Redditch.

And it would involve people of all ages from different churches, a diocese spokesperson said.

Nelson said: "It would be great to see lots of people in the cathedral for this great celebration of the life of the Church in this diocese over the generations past and into God's hope-filled future.

He added it was an "exiting time" to be joining the diocese and he was looking forward to "getting out about, visiting schools, churches and the communities".

He will also continue in his role as Bishop to the Armed Forces, providing spiritual and pastoral leadership to chaplains serving in the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.
