New scrutiny panel to question budget and strategy

A panel has been appointed to question ministers about the impact of the proposed budget on the government's strategy.

The review panel is made up of the heads of the five scrutiny panels and the Public Accounts Committee.

It is designed to question the chief minister and other ministers about the impact the proposed budget has on the 13 strategic priorities they have committed to during this government term.

President of the Scrutiny Liaison Committee Deputy Inna Gardiner said this would be carried out in an additional day of hearings.

Gardiner said: "We want to not only ensure that the budget enables the delivery of the common strategic policy, but to assess how the impact will be measured and how departmental independencies will be managed."

"It is critical that long-term plans and borrowing, including those detailed in the Investing in Jersey proposal, are thoroughly reviewed by scrutiny," she added.
