Child First in Moulton was shut last year following the safeguarding concerns

No further action will be taken against a staff member at a nursery who was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, prosecutors have said.

Child First Nursery in Moulton, Northampton, was shut by watchdog Ofsted on 9 May due to safeguarding concerns, and it announced in July that it would not reopen.

Police did not confirm where the incident was alleged to have taken place, or whether it happened at the nursery.

Northamptonshire Police submitted a file for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in January, but the CPS concluded there "was not enough evidence to support a realistic chance of prosecution".

In a statement, the CPS said: "We informed those affected and have subsequently received a request to review the decision under our victim's right to review scheme."

The scheme gives victims the right to ask for a review of a police decision not to charge a suspect.

The CPS said "it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

Northamptonshire Police added: "We recognise how difficult this investigation has been for the families involved and we want to acknowledge the strength it takes to come forward in circumstances like these."
