The family of a man killed in an alleged assault in Hull city centre have paid tribute to "his adventurous spirit".

Martin Chadburn, a former army veteran and an employee of Hull 4 Heroes, was taken to hospital with head injuries following the incident on Sunday morning in Queen Victoria Square. He died on Tuesday.

Three women, two aged 20 and one 21, and two men, 27 and 34, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are in custody. A 49-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remains on conditional bail, Humberside Police said.

His family said his death had "left an immeasurable loss in the hearts of all who knew and loved him".

The 53-year-old was described as a "much-loved son, brother, twin, uncle, friend and colleague".

"Martin was truly one of life's great characters - warm, loyal, funny and full of spirit. He was the life and soul of any gathering and had a rare gift for making people feel welcome," his family said.

"Martin had a large circle of friends, many of whom had known him since childhood and were like family to him.

"He was loved not only here at home, but by friends across the world."
