Twelve EV charge points back on after safety issues

Twelve charging points for electric vehicles (EV) are up and running again after safety concerns saw them turned off across a city.

All 98 on-street charge points in Portsmouth, which use the electricity supply from lampposts, were switched off a month ago.

They were shutdown after Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) found a fault with a charge point.

Portsmouth City Council said work was ongoing to bring more back into use.

The charging points were installed and are operated across the city by either ubitricity or Joju.

The charge point operators are responsible for liaising with the electricity distribution network operator, SSEN, to ensure safe connection to the electricity network.

While the on-street charge points are out of use any car will be able to park in their designated bays.

As charge points come back online the dedicated parking spaces alongside them will only be available for vehicles that are charging.
