Two schoolboys have been charged after a distressing video of an assault on another boy was shared on social media.

The incident happened on Copland Road near Paisley Road West, Glasgow, at about 16:00 on Tuesday.

Police confirmed that the boys, who were in school uniform, had been charged in connection with an assault and robbery.

A spokeswoman for Glasgow City Council said it was aware of a video being shared online and condemned violence of any form.

The council spokeswoman said: "We are aware that youths have been charged in connection with an assault so it would not be appropriate to comment on a specific incident.

"The school is working with the police and took swift action as soon as the allegations were made."

She added: "We would like to make it clear that spreading disinformation about a complex situation without the correct facts is dangerous and unhelpful and we would urge the local community to let the authorities do their jobs."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A report will be forwarded to the relevant authorities."
