An attempt by three burglary suspects to escape from officers was foiled after police dogs found them hiding off a country lane.

Officers said they were pursing the trio in a red Ford Fiesta on the A127, near Wickford, when they parked up and tried to flee.

They were arrested at about 14:00 GMT on Friday.

"It's never a good idea to try to hide from our highly trained police dogs and their handlers," said Supt Ian Hughes from Essex Police.

"Thankfully all three men were safely arrested – despite their efforts."

The men, aged 18, 22 and 30, were detained on suspicion of burglary, theft of motor vehicle, driving offences and drug possession offences.
