A market in Devon has been voted Britain's favourite for the fourth consecutive year.

South Molton Pannier Market was awarded the title at the Great British Market Awards, which are are voted for by the public.

The north Devon town's indoor market runs twice weekly and has more than 60 stalls, offering local produce, handmade crafts and food and drink.

Mayor of South Molton Paul Henderson said the award was "the icing on the cake" following previous wins in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

It was awarded the title this year in Birmingham on 5 February and has previously also picked up the title of best community market, in 2023 and 2024, and best market attraction, in 2025.

Henderson said the market was the "jewel in the crown" of South Molton.

"It is the traders which make our market what it is and, over the past 12 months, our town clerk Andrew Coates and our market manager Adam Nichols have taken what we offer in the pannier market to a whole new level," he said.

"This award isn't really about the town council, it's a reflection of the fantastic community we have of traders and our dedicated, progressive staff."

Henderson said the council planned to keep investing and improving on the market.

"We have just commenced replacing the whole roof at a cost of close to £400,000 and, once done, we are installing a massive screen, which will allow for the screening of major events in a safe and secure environment for the whole community to enjoy," he said.
