A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman, police say.

Avon and Somerset Police was called to an address in Sussex Place in the St Pauls area of Bristol at about 20:40 GMT on Friday where the woman was found deceased.

Although formal identification has not yet been completed, the woman is believed to be in her 30s, a spokesperson for the force said.

The arrested man remains in custody, they added.

Det Insp Neil Meade, from the force's major crime investigation team, said an investigation was under way to establish the circumstances of the woman's death.

"We know this news will come as a shock to the community and people will be concerned, but we are not looking for anybody else in connection to this death, at this time," he said.

Meade added that there would be a "significant" police presence in the area over the coming days.
