Village logistics hub given final green light
Blaby District CouncilDetailed designs for a new logistics hub in Enderby have been given the green light.
Final approval for the Enderby Logistics Hub, off Leicester Lane, has now been granted by Blaby District Council's planning committee after outline permission was given in July.
Designs show the 33-hectare (81 acres) scheme has been divided into three sections, with five warehouses set to be built at the site.
Blaby District Council said about 2,479 jobs could be created by the project – 1,811 direct, 125 construction-related jobs and potentially a further 543 indirect roles.
Planning documents, submitted by developer Royal London Mutual Insurance Ltd, show the first phase of work will include all earthworks, the construction of the main spine roads, footpaths and internal access roads, landscaping, yards and all parking provision.
The second phase will concentrate on the warehousing and industrial units.
Two warehouses earmarked for large-scale logistics operations will be located at the rear of the site, adjacent to the M1, while another bigger unit will be built next to two smaller warehouses towards the front of the plot.
Lee Breckon, planning committee chairman, said: "This site in Enderby has been allocated for employment use in our Local Plan since 2019 due to its excellent local transport links and its position near other business parks.
"The applicant is committed to delivering a 'flagship project' which will offer modern, sustainable and high-quality commercial warehousing and business units.
"This will bring more jobs to the district and boost our economy, providing benefits for all."
During consultation for the site, locals voiced concerns that the hub could swallow up the countryside and clog local roads.
An initial attempt for planning approval was rejected by the council in October 2023, but an altered scheme was approved the following year.
