Strip club that faced opposition has licence renewed
GoogleA strip club that faced opposition from a developer and a councillor as it sought to renew its licence will be allowed to continue operating.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead renewed the licence for The Honeypot in Queen Street, Maidenhead, despite objections from Ryger Maidenhead, which has built 440 apartments in the One Maidenhead project.
The club's owner, Adrian Weatherstone, told a council panel on Monday about planned changes, including improvements to the building and a potential name change to Club Allure.
The Honeypot's continued operation was also opposed by independent councillor Jack Douglas, who said the area had "no prospect" of "becoming less residential again".
Tim Barlow, from Ryger Maidenhead, said on Monday the company had about 1,000 people living in four blocks at the £200m Berkshire complex, with another 1,000 expected to live there in the future.
The Honeypot has had its licence to operate renewed annually since 2011.
A council sub-committee refused to approve it in 2024 but the authority ultimately renewed it after the club's then owners sought to challenge the decision through a judicial review.
Thames Valley Police did not object to the licence being renewed.
