Several people were injured after a fight broke out at a holiday park during the early hours.

Police were called to Solway Holiday Village in Silloth, Cumbria, shortly after 03:20 GMT.

Armed officers were also deployed because of reports that "bladed weapons" were being used, but this turned out to be incorrect, Cumbria Police said.

The force said five men were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

A spokesperson said "a number of people were injured" and were treated by medical professionals. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"Enquiries are ongoing at the scene and residents in the surrounding area may see a larger than normal police presence while this continues throughout the day," they added.

A spokesperson for Solway Holiday Village said the company was grateful for the police's "swift response".

"We would like to reassure our guests and owners that this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to public safety," they said.

"Our central facilities were closed this morning while the police completed their investigation, but we're pleased to confirm they are now fully reopened."
