Council bosses have drawn up plans to revamp underpasses leading to a park in Leicester.

Leicester City Council said it wanted to improve the pedestrian and cycling routes under the A6 at St Margaret's Way, near Abbey Park.

It described the current overall feeling of approaching the park as "poor".

The authority has committed about £350,000 towards the scheme which it hopes to implement later in the 2025-26 financial year.

"The scheme is designed to ensure that access to and through the park for pedestrians and cyclists is safe, well lit, and attractive," a council spokesperson said.

"It is work that better connects cyclists and pedestrians between the new, improved routes at Woodgate, Waterside and Abbey Gate with Abbey Park and the National Cycle Network.

"The quality of the surface in this area is poor, as is the overall feeling of entering the park.

"With recent works to the Woodgate corridor and Abbey Gate, these entrances are now much more useful and prominent."

The project is being funded with part of a wider pot of £9.2m provided to the council by the government.
