Richard Breed is accused of murdering Brenda Breed at her Somerset home

A 62-year-old man will stand trial again for the alleged murder of his mother.

Brenda Breed was found dead at her home in Westonzoyland in Somerset on 22 July 2025. Richard Breed previously admitted to her manslaughter but pleaded not guilty to murder and went on trial in January.

The jury during those court proceedings was later discharged after being unable to reach a verdict.

At a brief hearing at Bristol Crown Court earlier, His Honour Judge Lambert said Breed would face a retrial, with a start date to be fixed in the coming days. He remanded Breed, of Monmouth Close in Westonzoyland, into custody.
