Part of the A12 between Essex and Suffolk is due to close overnight for almost three weeks.

Work between the Crown Interchange at Colchester and the Copdock roundabout in Ipswich will begin on Monday.

Running until 31 January, the northbound carriageway will be shut between 20:00 and 05:00 GMT each night.

National Highways said the road was going to be resurfaced and have its road markings and cat's eyes replaced or refreshed.

It said drivers headed towards Ipswich during any closure should follow the diversion route in place:

  • Exit the A12 at junction 29 (Crown Interchange)
  • At the A120/B1035 roundabout, take the B1035 Clacton Road and head north
  • Turn left on to the B1352 Long Road and continue to Lawford
  • Take the second exit on to the A137 and follow it to A14 junction 56 at the Wherstead Interchange
  • Join the A14 and continue to junction 55 at the Copdock Interchange
