Firefighters tackle blaze at commercial unit

Firefighters have been tackling a major fire which ripped through a warehouse in the early hours.

The fire broke out some time before 01:45 GMT at Bacup Shoe Direct on Railway Street, Stacksteads, Bacup, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Ten fire engines were at the scene at the height of the blaze, with small pockets of fire still remaining as late as 11:00. The fire service said it would remain at the scene for the rest of the day.

Several road closures were in place including Railway Street and Newchurch Road and people living nearby were being advised to keep their windows closed.

There have been no reports of any injuries.
