Turtle lands in UK for rehab after Storm Goretti
BBCA rare turtle which washed up in Jersey following Storm Goretti has landed in the UK after travelling via plane for rehabilitation.
Crush, a loggerhead turtle, was given treatment at New Era Veterinary Hospital in St Saviour after she was found extremely weak and suffering from malnutrition.
Vets said the turtle could not handle a ferry journey so airline Loganair offered to transport her by plane to Southampton.
Claudine Kirk, from Loganair, said the creature had to be taken to a separate area to be searched "as we can't put her through the security scanners".
She added: "We've got special permissions to take Crush on the actual aircraft... travelling as a pet.
"Loganair just want to make sure we can assist and get Crush back to full health."
Crush is to continue her rehabilitation in Southampton, where she landed after 07:30 GMT on Tuesday.
From Southampton, Crush is due to be taken to the Sealife centre at Weymouth in Dorset.
Vets believe exposure to cold water in the English Channel resulted in her suffering "cold stunning", which causes a turtle's body to shut down.
