A horse has been rescued from a hole in Alderney with the help of the island's fire brigade.

Alderney Fire Brigade was called at about 16:30 GMT on Tuesday to reports of a horse that was stuck after it had fallen into a hole.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "The hole looked like it was possibly an entrance to an old concrete bunker and the horse had one back leg stuck under a large concrete lintel."

After rescuing the horse, crews said they stayed with the owner for a few minutes to ensure "that all was ok and no more help was needed" before returning to the station.
