Fire crews tackle blaze at Grade II listed pub

Firefighters were called to a blaze at an empty pub on Wednesday

Firefighters were called to a blaze at a Grade II listed pub on Wednesday afternoon.

Crews from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called to the The Worlds End Pub in Tilbury, Thurrock at 15:30 BST.

The fire service said it was brought under control by 18:30 but firefighters remained at the scene on Fort Road throughout the evening to check for hot spots and make sure the area was safe.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze will be carried out once the site is safe, the fire service said.

The public house, which has been closed for three months, has been Grade II listed by Historic England since 1974.
