A man has died after being hit by a lorry in Staffordshire.

The crash happened on the A5 Watling Street near Cannock at about 11:00 GMT on New Year's Eve, officers said.

The male pedestrian was hit by the lorry and subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics.

His next of kin had been informed and were being supported, police added. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed in both directions while emergency services attended the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam footage of the area, was asked to contact Staffordshire Police.
