Major £20m town regeneration 'progressing well'
Nottingham City CouncilWork on a £20m project to redevelop part of Bulwell is "progressing well", Nottingham City Council has said.
Contractors moved on site at the end of October and since then, the renovation of block paving in Market Place has begun, and drainage works in Market Place, Main Street and Commercial Road are now under way.
In the Bogs area, further drainage work has started in readiness for surfacing and the installation of a new kiosk, play equipment and splash area.
The project, which will also include upgrades to market stalls and new toilets in the bus station, is due to be completed by the end of the year.
Nottingham City CouncilThe city council said the work was shaped by a consultation exercise carried out in 2022.
The consultation found residents wanted improvements including more high-quality green space, accessibility in the town centre, and increased cultural activities for families.
Nottingham City CouncilIn the Market Place, new stalls with better access to electrical power will be installed, and paving will be renewed across the pedestrianised areas of the town centre, along with new seating and landscaping.
The public toilets next to Bulwell bus station, in Vere Street, will close on Monday, with the new facility opening later in the spring.
Neghat Khan, city council leader, said: "It's fantastic to see real, visible progress being made on our plans to transform Bulwell.
"This is an exciting moment for the town, and we're proud to be delivering improvements that will make a lasting difference for local residents, families and businesses."
