Hillsborough Leisure Centre in Sheffield has reopened after a £500,000 transformation.

Work started at the facility last month and marked the last upgrade project of 2025 by leisure operator Everyone Active, which runs the centre in partnership with Sheffield City Council.

Councillor Kurtis Crossthorn, chair of the communities, parks and leisure committee, said the work was about "investing in the health, wellbeing and future of our residents".

The council said £1.3m had been invested in sports facilities across the city this year, including a £750,000 refurbishment at The English Institute of Sport Sheffield and Concord Sports, and a £110,000 makeover of the gym at Heeley Pool.

Crossthorn said the refurbished leisure centre was a "modern, inclusive space where everyone can get active, recover and connect".

The improvements "help ensure everyone has the opportunity to lead healthier, more active lives", he explained.

According to the council, the refurbished centre featured an improved cycle studio, as well as new cardio equipment including treadmills, cross-trainers and rowing machines.

The gym had also received fresh new decor, improvements to free weight areas and the addition of a dedicated recovery space.

The rest of the facility remained open during the works at the centre and was unaffected by the gym closure, with group exercises and the pool still in operation.
