Over 200 arrests made in festive driving crackdown
BBCMore than 200 drivers have been arrested during the first three weeks of a police crackdown on drink and drug driving over the festive period.
Operation Limit sees Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary carry out roadside checks throughout each December, targeting motorists suspected of being unfit to drive.
With a rise in seasonal celebrations and gatherings, the force said there was also an increase in the number of people taking risks.
Insp Chris Sharland from the Roads Policing Unit said many drivers did not appreciate they could still have too much alcohol in their system the morning after drinking.

Figures obtained by the BBC on Monday revealed the force had arrested 82 drivers on suspicion of drink driving.
A further 129 had been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
'We're not party poopers'
Insp Sharland said: "This is a time of the year where lots of people we know want to go out and have fun.
"We're not party poopers, we want people to enjoy themselves but do it responsibly and don't take risks when it comes to drink and drug driving."
He said the campaign could save lives.
"When I get called out in the middle of the night and I go to those tragic scenes of road death, it reminds us of the reason we come out and do this."
It is hoped increased patrols and a heightened police presence will act as a deterrent to anyone tempted to drive while they could be unfit to do so.
In 2024, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary made a total of 322 arrests during Operation Limit.
There were 152 motorists arrested on suspicion of drink driving and 170 arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
