Fire from car spreads through house

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing

Crews have been working to put out a fire which started in a car and spread to a house.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Ipswich, Woodbridge, Framlingham, Orford and Bury St Edmunds were called to St Gregorys Close in Rendlesham, near Woodbridge, at 07:20 BST.

They found the hybrid vehicle and part of the house well alight, with the fire spreading to the ground floor, first floor, and roof space. No-one was injured.

Electricity to 73 properties was temporarily turned off by UK Power Networks at 08:10 BST and was restored to all but the affected house by 13:05.

Fire crews remained on site to check for hotspots once the fire was brought under control

The fire service said an investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing.

A spokesperson said: "Crews closely monitored the hybrid vehicle's battery temperature to check for any signs of thermal runaway."

Correction: Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service had initially referred to the vehicle as an electric car, and this was reflected in our article. We have since amended the story to clarify that it was a hybrid vehicle.
