The A6 in Milford will close at times between the King William pub and Milford play area

Road closures are set to be enforced on a major route in Derbyshire so urgent tree safety works can take place.

Amber Valley Borough Council said the A6 in Milford would be closed between the King William pub and Milford play area from Monday to Wednesday, between 07:30 and 16:30 GMT.

The authority said an assessment showed a number of trees growing on and above the rock face behind properties on Makeney Road had been found to pose a risk to nearby homes - with using a crane positioned on the A6 deemed the only safe way to remove them.

A spokesperson for the council said the closure would be "disruptive" and it would not take this step unless it was "essential".

The authority said the signed diversion route would be via the A38, and advised motorists to allow extra time for journeys.

The spokesperson added: "We know this is a very busy route and this closure will be disruptive. We would not take this step unless it was essential.

"However, keeping residents, road users and nearby properties safe has to come first."
