Work has started on a new purpose-built youth centre in Jersey.

The construction stage has begun on the former Ann Street Brewery site, in St Helier, which the government said marked a "major milestone".

Project leaders said the building would be five-storeys tall, and include a rooftop kick pitch, large climbing wall, dance studio and sports hall, among other facilities.

The Youth Enquiry Service is due to move into a standalone building on the site in January 2027, with the full youth centre set to open in 2028. A pop-up event is being held in the Millennium Town Park on 10 April for anyone who wanted to find out more, organisers said.

Associate Director of Children and Young People Mark Capern said: "The voices of young people have already helped get us to where we are today and we're not done yet.

"The next step is to recruit Youth Ambassadors who will join us in shaping the next phase of the design.

"This new centre is being shaped around what they have asked for, ensuring it becomes a space where all young people can feel welcome, supported, and inspired."
