Town's multi-storey car park to be demolished
GoogleA car park that has already been partially closed-off on safety grounds will be shut permanently and demolished.
Easton Street multi-storey car park in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, has reached the end of its operational life due to structural deterioration, vandalism and financial losses, a report to Buckinghamshire Council stated.
Levels six to 12 and the lifts of the 1960s building were not in use and recent inspections had identified structural defects and falling masonry, it added.
The authority's cabinet agreed to fund the £1.75m demolition works, which it said would open up "significant regeneration opportunities" at the "prime development site".
Council officers added fully restoring the car park would cost more than £3m, which they said could not be justified given the site's limited use and income potential.
Drivers displaced by Easton Street's closure could use nearby car parks, which were running at just over half their capacity, the cabinet heard.
Demolition of the site was expected to begin in late spring or early summer 2026.
