Police said Shahmus Hussain was attacked in broad daylight in the park

Six men have been convicted of killing a man who was stabbed in a "brutal" attack in a park.

Shahmus Hussain, 36, died after he was followed by the gang last July into Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury, where he was attacked with baseball bats and hockey sticks before being stabbed in the back.

Following a trial at Leeds Crown Court, four men were found guilty of murder and two were found guilty of manslaughter.

Paying tribute to Hussain, who was from Dewsbury Moor, his family said he was "a much‑loved son, father and brother" and they had been left "heartbroken" by his death.

A seventh man, Asif Azeem, 23, of Groves Hall Road, was cleared of murder.

The court heard that on the evening of 12 July last year, an argument took place between the victim, Basit Ali, Sakeb Ali Khan, Zeeshan Khan and another man on Pilgrim Drive in the Dewsbury Moor area.

This resulted in a group of men following Hussain into Crow Nest Park, where he was attacked.

Det Ch Insp James Entwistle, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "It was a brutal and needless act of violence that resulted in him suffering injuries that, tragically, he did not survive."

The six men will be sentenced at a date yet to be set.
