A medieval market town's museum has reopened after a snap closure for repairs and a revamp.

Tewkesbury Museum closed in December 2023 to allow essential work to take place.

After moving more than 7,000 historic objects into storage, its curators are now slowly moving it all back.

Jenny Smart, from the museum said moving everything out of the building was "a very chaotic" process.

"We didn't have very much time. We were given about three weeks notice, so packing was very quick," she said.

"It's been very chaotic. We're still in the process of unpacking."

The building, which dates back to 1650, had its roof retiled and a new heating system installed.

Touch screens and interactive points will also be added throughout the exhibits.

"We are also the repository for archaeology for the surrounding areas," Ms Smart explained.

"So we are sort of running out of space but we are hoping that we can keep going and maybe find somewhere else," she added.
