Teacher's partner found indecent images on his phone
James Chapelard/CrimestoppersA teacher who was discovered by his partner viewing indecent images of children on his phone while drunk has been banned from the role.
Daniel Johnson admitted two counts of making an indecent image or pseudo-photograph of children and was convicted in 2024, a hearing of the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) heard.
He had been a teacher at Heygarth Primary School in Wirral, Merseyside, which is reported to have told parents that none of the students had been identified as victims in the case.
The school referred the case to the TRA, which recently concluded that he was "prohibited from teaching indefinitely".
Johnson's offences included possessing two category B images and one category A image - the latter being the most serious.
He was given an 18-month community order with 70 hours of unpaid work and a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 35 days.
'Cannot teach'
The TRA report found: "There was insufficient evidence before the panel of insight or remorse that would indicate Mr Johnson was sufficiently rehabilitated such that he would not pose a risk of repeating the conduct."
They ruled he "cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children's home in England".
Johnson has the right to appeal the TRA decision.
At his sentencing in 2024, his lawyer said: "In hindsight, the defendant welcomes the involvement of the police in this matter.
"It has arrested behaviour which he regarded as concerning. His arrest and conviction have had a profound effect on him."
Johnson was also handed a five-year sexual harm prevention order and was told to sign the sex offenders' register for the same period.
