A man has been charged following a shooting in Speedwell, Bristol

A 24-year-old has been charged after a man in his 20s was seriously injured during a shooting in Bristol, police have said.

William Scammell, from Speedwell, faces charges of attempted murder and being in possession of a shortened shotgun.

The force launched a manhunt after a gun was fired at a car on Speedwell Road in the city at about 13:47 BST on Wednesday.

Scammell will appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

A man and woman, also in their 20s, who were arrested on Thursday on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been released on bail, police said.

They said the victim remained in hospital being treated for serious injuries.

Avon and Somerset Police said they were supporting the victim and his family and are keeping them updated on any inquiries.
