Daniel Kristiansen was jailed at Newcastle Crown Court

A paedophile who promised to give a young girl a Cabbage Patch Kids doll if she groped him more than four decades ago has been jailed.

Daniel Kristiansen, now 80, abused the child when she was between four and seven years old, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

The victim said she was left feeling "dirty" and like "faulty goods", with the abuse having a major impact on the rest of her life.

Kristiansen, of Dunston in Gateshead, had denied wrongdoing but was found guilty of indecent assault by jurors. He was sentenced to three years in prison.

The court heard when the girl tried to stop touching Kristiansen he told her "come on, we are just being nice".

Judge Stephen Earl said the abuse "clearly" had a "very important and far-reaching" affect on the victim.

Kristiansen will also have to sign the sex offender register for the rest of his life.
