Brothers charged after machete attack on officer

An off-duty officer was stabbed in Luton on Saturday 2 November

Two teenage brothers have been charged with attempted murder after an off-duty police officer was attacked with a machete.

The Metropolitan Police officer was stabbed in Luton town centre at 13:10 GMT on Saturday 2 November.

Hannan Mahmood, 19, and Humar Mahmood, 18, both of Belmont Road, Luton, were arrested on Friday.

They were charged in connection with the attack and a robbery and were remanded in custody when they appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court at the weekend.

The brothers have also been accused of wounding with intent, possession of a bladed article in a public place, robbery and dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for information and footage of the incident, which happened in George Street outside the Luton Point shopping centre.
