A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing explosive items after police earlier cordoned off a lane in a town centre.

Cambridgeshire Police said it was called to a residential address in Oil Mill Lane, Wisbech, at 06:28 BST, following reports of a "suspicious item inside".

The force said a 100m (328ft) cordon was put in place and an explosive ordnance disposal team attended. It later confirmed it was "not dangerous or explosive".

A 33-year-old man remained in custody and people were advised to avoid the area around Aldi, Oil Mill Lane and Old Market Street.

Nene Veterinary Group, located near the cordon, said in a post on social media: "Due to an emergency in the area, our Wisbech practice will be closed for the remainder of the day."

In the afternoon, police said the cordon had been scaled back to the property and thanked residents for their patience.
